Wii and Wine

Remember when Hayden dazzled us with his party planning skills in December and "planned" a Christmas party sans parent knowledge? It was deja vu all over again... this time a wii party. While talking with my parents about when to give their truck back... since we've been borrowing in for a few days while waiting for Jonathan's new truck... they said, "We can always get it at the wii party."

"What?"

"Your wii party on Tuesday."

"My wii party on Tuesday?"

"Yes, the one that Hayden sent us an email about... from his own email account."

"Oh, the wii party. Yes, I know nothing about that."

Turns out that he planned a wii party, but only my parents were invited (thank goodness) because it's the only email he could find. (I'm sure we should say something to him about planning parties without our knowledge, but it's kind of cute... we'll save that conversation for high school years... Ha ha... well, let's hope not). They were good sports and showed up. Hayden spoiled us with "desserts" where we had to get them outside in the cold --- Dora raisins, granola bars, rice crispy treats, Hershey kisses.

Mom and I had wine... thus the wii and wine. Then a little Bailey's and coffee to top it off. Fun times Hayden. Thanks!

Book Club

Thanks to my friends/co-workers, I am a full fledged dork because I belong to a book club. Funny thing ... is that I'm super excited about it. Like many others, I love to read and this way I get to talk about it as well. Well, there is Jonathan, but that's like talking to a wall. If I was talking about quads or how to build something, then he might acknowledge my comments. For instance, last night I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife and was crying... what a great book by the way... and instead of saying..."must be a good book"... he gives me a hug and feels sorry for me. Then I really feel like a dork. At least he noticed...

Oh well... So far our club has read Hunger Games (fabulous book with a sequel coming soon), The Countess Below Stairs (mmm...not my fave), and The Time Traveler's Wife (great!...with a movie coming soon).... Next is Inkheart (with a movie field trip planned), then more on our list like Graceling... and more that I can't remember. I've also read The Host (oh my gosh... loved it!) and am in the middle of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (of course I'm doing the midnight showing this summer!) .

Do you have any recommendations??

To remember...

Some funny things to remember:

  • Zoe now insists on wearing a swim suit to bathe in.
  • Hayden found an old rope at school which nobody claimed, brought it home, and it is now fought over. Zoe actually slept with it the other day because she "lubs" it.
  • Hayden has not stopped reading since last Tuesday.
  • While the kids were jumping on the trampoline the other day, Hayden started dragging Zoe around by her feet, much to her delight. The result was a hairstyle by static cling. Hayden brilliantly noted that she resembled a dandelion. And she really did.

Not much, but funny things to me...

Off to Grandma's

It was a momentous occasion for Zoe... she spent her first night at Grandma and Papa's house last night. Side note - She had spent a night with Grandma at a hotel in December, but we were right next door so I'm not sure that counts. Plus it wasn't at their house.

Although we missed her, we were not missed by her. She did all the things there that she couldn't do here... had 2 popsicles for dinner, watched movies all night, slept with Grandma, and made a mess in the living room. So, why would we be missed? I'm surprised I was able to take her back home... to a life of misery it sounds like.

Will Power

I don't have any.... at least when it comes to exercising. I got up at 5am last week to do the wii fit 2 times. I figured that was pretty good since before that I didn't get up at all. I was determined to beat that record this week and do it 3 times. My determination didn't pull through, even though I set the alarm in time for my 5am wii fit trainer to meet me in my cozy living room, and I continued to bask in the warmth of my cozy bed next to my snoring husband.

I'm sorry wii mii trainer... I didn't keep up. And I know you were disappointed, especially since last time I gained 1.3 pounds. Even though you remind me that our weight fluctuates throughout the day, I could sense the sadness. It is fun, yet so is sleeping at 5 in the morning. I even gave up my evening showers for frizzier hair in the mornings to be prepared for a little sweating after my morning workout... at 5am.

I am preparing myself for next week. Tomorrow is Friday and it's just not a possibility to get up tomorrow (TGIF and all).. then there's the weekend... and who does it then? Ok, probably many... But, my point being, is that, wii mii, I will meet you there Monday, and if not Monday, then Tuesday. Oh, yes, expect me... I hope...

PS... This is post 101!!

Disneyland Pictures....

Here are just a few. Wow, it was fun!

I love my kids!

Well, I love my children.

I love when Zoe...
  • screams like a monster, then says.. "I'm just kidding, it's just me."
  • gives me hugs
  • and I sing Itsy Bitsy Spider at bedtime
  • prays and thanks God for EVERTHING... piggy bank, cupboards, Duke
  • giggles
  • gives Hayden hugs
  • hula hoops on the wii
  • chooses her own clothes

I love when Hayden...
  • gives Zoe hugs
  • offers to take a bath with Zoe
  • gets excited about his books
  • gives crazy smiles
  • speaks in made up Spanish... not really
  • says "apparently" in every other sentence
  • tells me about his games like I have any idea what he's talking about
  • laughs at Jonathan

Ahhh... I feel better. Lately those kids I love are driving me insane. Zoe whines, says no, and spits. Hayden bothers Zoe and gets her to whine, doesn't listen all that well, and uses language that refers to things better left in the bathroom. Sound familiar anyone? I hope so...

GI Jane?

I found this in the kids' bathroom...

Is this part of the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy?

Such is life...

The week after a break is always soooo hard. The kids don't want to get up and I have guilt over getting my "baby" up at 6:15 so I can drag her to daycare... which, btw, my daycare lady is fab! This week has been especially rough. They both have been soooo crabby in the morning, and we've had many time outs, for both, every day.

Highlights include jumping on our new trampoline. It's super fun. And we are such dorks that we took pictures of us jumping. They will be posted soon, as I don't have them now since I'm blogging on my prep at work... sshhhhh...

Ok... here are the pictures:

Another fun fact... This morning, Zoe got dressed herself. She came in with a clickity-clickity, and I just knew that whatever shoes were making that noise, her outfit had to be fabulous. She sheepishly walked in with a grin. I tried to get a picture, but she completely refused. Her outfit included:
  • a shirt, on backwards, with a picture of a crown and the word princess
  • a pink tutu - thanks Cheryl
  • white fluffy pj pants with pink giraffes - thanks Donna
  • pink dress up shoes that are too small for her chubby feet.
  • a big pink and white bow in her hair
Then she says... "I'm a princess.".... Yes, she is! And she totally went to daycare that way.

Oops! RIP

Jonathan decided to do a little off roading by himself the day before Christmas Eve. I got a call from him claiming he was fine, the truck was still running, and his head hurt a little. He was babbling some and wasn't making much sense. I finally got it out of him that his truck had rolled. If you know Jonathan, you would understand why I didn't believe him at first. Yet, he was telling the truth. I had to go pick him up in my trusty mini van.

Here are the results:
After it was towed out of the ravine the next day...
And the truck was only a year old... barely. Now he's driving a lovely rental, with hopes of a new used truck... We are thankful, of course, that his is ok. :)

New Year...

I'm not good at keeping resolutions, but I thought if I kept it to a minimum that maybe it would work:

I want to:
  • exercise ... (I would say exercise more, but since I don't at all, just "exercise" will work) and I get to use my new Wii Fit! I have yet to set it up.
  • read my Bible more
  • nag Jonathan less
  • save more money
Goodbye to 2008. It was a good year, in my opinion. All the ups and downs are a part of life and I loved every minute of it. I love watching my Zoe grow up and experience new things, and watching Hayden grow older and taller by the day. I love my husband, and wonder what the next 5 years will be like...

Disney, or bust

I've decided that I actually hate keeping a journal... I have great things to say in my head, and then when I finish it sounds so terribly written and utterly boring. I apologize to my "fans" for my uninteresting blogs and shallow entries... it's not meant to be that way. LOL...

Speaking of blogs, I thought I'd give a recap of our Disneyland trip, which BTW, I had a great time! Pictures will have to come later, as our stupid, lazy, no good computer isn't working well with our pictures.

Day 1 - here we come:
We left the house at 8:10 to get gas and Starbucks. I got a few SB cards for Christmas and thought what a better time to use them than on a road trip. We stopped at Safeway for gas and coffee, and by 8:40 we were leaving. Yes, 8:40. They were so freaking slow at SB that I thought I'd go crazy. Then, they kept the water on the whole time.. running water... running water... running water.

By 9:04 were already stopping for a potty break for Zoe. She had to p**p!! Then, two more stops after that and then we arrived about 1:30 their time (2:30 ours). Not bad! And the kids were great. We were early for check in, but Jonathan sweet talked the clerk and we had a room... not only a room, but a "suite". It had an extra couch.

We headed off to Downtown Disney and "shopped" and ate at Rainforest Cafe, of all places. Jonathan and I also had a little disagreement about what constitutes snacks and lunches on vacation at Disney... apparently PB&J sandwiches were not on his list. Hmm...

Day 2:
After sleeping in a bit, we finally made it to the park by 10am. Now if you're like me, 10am is terrible when the park opens at 8am. My kind of vacation is GO, GO, GO... it's not like we're here every day. Jonathan's is ... let's relax, sleep in, take our time. Arrg! But, we made it together ... at least the first day.

Our first ride was Jungle Cruise and Zoe loved it. Hayden had is camera... the only time... and started taking pictures of plastic elephants and fake people, but whatever. Next was Tarzan's tree house.. formerly Swiss Family Robinson's.... remember? Then Tom Sawyer's Island, now Pirate's Lair. And some other ones... it was fun though, and hardly any waits. After lunch, Zoe and I went back for a nap while Jonathan and Hayden stayed and hung out and took in some more rides. Zoe slept forever... just when I thought she'd wake up, the boys came back and then wanted to rest. REST?! What?? I'd been sitting there for almost 3 hours and they want to rest? Ha...!

I talked them into going and we ended up in California Adventure. Zoe was too short to ride some rides, so we watched Jonathan and Hayden, then found some fireman truck for the kids to play on. After, we rode some rocket ships a couple times since there was no wait. We headed back to the hotel around 8:00ish... I think.

Day 3 - New Year's Eve:
Zoe and I were at the park by 7:55 and cheered with everyone when the let us in. The boys? Yes, they were still sleeping. The plan was to meet them in the parking lot at 10 to go to the CVS minute clinic. Zoe's asthma was acting up, and mom of the year here forgot to bring her breathing treatment stuff. Anyway, Zoe and I rode almost all the rides in Fantasy Land, while all the while looking for some princesses... never saw them though. I had a blast! It was so much fun seeing Zoe's face while seeing those rides for the first time. She even loved Snow White and Pinocchio, even though they were "scary". Her favorite was the flying elephants... aka Dumbo.

We met the boys and headed to CVS. We were there by 10:10, 10 min. after they opened and the incompetent nurse wasn't there... she was taking a break. ?!@#@!?$@ We waited, and she finally showed up and proved she was of no use because she couldn't do anything. We called Zoe's doctor, and after some running around and driving everywhere, we finally acquired a Nebulizer and some albuterol. Victory! Jonathan volunteered to take Zoe back to do her treatment, and Hayden and I were off to Disney again.

We rode the giant pirate ship, the Storybook Land boat ride, Haunted Mansion (which, btw it was the first time we'd seen it in the holidays and it was awesome!), saw part of a gun show, and rode Autopia. Fun! Jonathan and Zoe met up with us and we once again ate dinner at Rainforest Cafe, then headed for some more fun at Disney. The boys rode Autopia again and then ... my mom showed up. ha ha... what fun. She said she couldn't miss Disney with the kids and drove by herself. And since Jonathan did a little flirting, we had that extra couch. The kids and I walked back since both of them were dead tired. Jonathan stayed (and admitted he was having fun) and hung out in CA by himself and rode the Tower Of Terror... which I have yet to ride!

Day 4 - New Year's Day:
Mom and I were the only ones up so we headed over to Disney and walked on with no waiting to Matterhorn, Nemo, Pirate's, Splash Mountain, ate some lunch, then the rest of them showed up about 11:45. Wow!! I guess the kids didn't want to go.. .and Zoe had started running a fever the day before so on the way there she'd fallen asleep in the stroller. While Jonathan and Hayden rode some rides (one of them being the canoes where he actually stood up with his paddle and got yelled at), Mom and I walked around with Zoe... until she woke up at 3:00! No kidding.

Then we went back to do her breathing treatment, and met up with the boys at 4:00... We dragged Zoe to the Princess Faire (another thing I had no idea about) and got her to see the princesses, finally! We saw Sleeping Beauty, Mulan (really?), and Cinderella. Zoe only really sat next to Sleeping Beauty so Jonathan and I were in more of the pictures than her. Then Grandma got Zoe's face painted with Tinkerbell, one of her favorites! The boys were off riding rides.

Even though Zoe was so tired, we dragged her onto It's a Small World... poor thing, I know, but seriously! She loved it! And so did we. Another one of those rides that changes with the holidays and we had never seen it before. We headed over to Toon Town and met the boys, then toured Mickey and Minnie's houses. Afterwards, Jonathan took the kids back to the hotel. Zoe was so tired and still running a low fever. Hayden actually rode the train back to Main Street with Mom and I before going with Jonathan... we got to see the Grand Canyon and the Dinosaurs... I had no idea they existed!

Mom and I had the great idea to go to CA since she got a hopper and we didn't want to waste her ticket. We got there at 9:01.... It closed at 9:00!! How sad! The other times it was open to 10:00 and 1:00am for New Year's... Ugg... We were going to ride Soaring and maybe the Tower, but no go. Instead we walked back to the hotel and got some hot chocolate at 7-11. I know... totally lame. We so should have stayed at Disney, but I was so tired.

We got back and Zoe's temp had risen to 103... luckily about midnight it broke.

Day 5 - on our way home:
After sleeping in and getting packed up. OMG... there was seriously way more stuff to pack up than what we brought. I'm not sure how though. We had some breakfast then left town around 12:00ish... We got home about 7 and at In N Out. Yum!

I'm so glad to be home, although I had a great time there. I can't wait to go back again! Thanks to the Tibbetts for watching our house while we were away... and thanks for the visit! Thanks mom for crashing our vacation... it was tons of fun. Thanks to Jonathan for not complaining one time about how Disney is not your favorite... even though you made fun of many people... :) and Thanks to Walt Disney, for coming up with such an extravagant idea for the American family to spend varying money amounts on random things. We had fun!
